
On the occasion of the Consumer’s Day, March 15, and with the aim of raising public awareness about the protection of personal data of consumers in the telecommunications sector, the Directorate for the Protection of Personal Data, the Agency for Electronic Communications, the Organization of Consumers of Macedonia, T-Mobile Macedonia, VIP OPERATOR, ONE Telecommunications Services, Makedonski Telecom and Alo Telecom signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in joint organization of Open days – protection of consumers’ personal data under the motto MY NUMBER – my PROTECTED WORLD!
The goal of this joint project was to create conditions for the application of modern achievements in the processing of personal data through information technology in the daily operations of operators of public electronic communication services and better protection of consumers, as well as raising the social responsibility of business operators towards consumers and the community.
Through the participation of representatives of each signatory party in the realization of the project activities foreseen in the Memorandum, the following activities were organized in order to achieve the goals:
- Production and printing of information materials – brochures and posters;
- Media coverage of project activities in order to raise public awareness of the need to protect personal data and announcement of Open Days;
- Realization of the Open Days – The protection of personal data and consumers, in Skopje, Bitola, Shtip and Tetovo, at previously determined most frequented places in the center of each city separately, on the proposal of the agency that will be in charge of organizing the Open Days
The open days were held on March 15 in Skopje (City Shopping Center), March 17 in Tetovo (Iliria Square), March 20 in Bitola (Magnolia Square) and March 24 in Shtip, from 12:00 to 16:00.
At the Open Days, citizens had the opportunity to be informed about their right to the protection of personal data in the telecommunications sector, to receive answers to the most frequently asked questions related to the collection and processing of personal data, direct marketing, but also to ask direct questions to the Directorate for Protection of personal data, the Agency for Electronic Communications, the Organization of Consumers and Telecommunications Operators.
The activities of this project were also presented to the general public through the participation of the Directorate for the Protection of Personal Data, the Agency for Electronic Communications and the Organization of Consumers in the specialized show for the protection of consumer rights BAR CODE, the contact show LET’S BE CLEAN, and it is expected that guest appearance in the debate show BEZ PARDON on Macedonian television.
