On November 29, 2024, in Skopje, the Personal Data Protection Agency promoted the Strategy for the Implementation of the Right to Personal Data Protection in the Republic of North Macedonia 2025-2030.
The Director of the Agency, Imer Aliu, addressed the Agency’s priorities in the coming period, and in particular the need to ensure the Agency’s full independence, raise awareness among citizens, and improve cooperation with other institutions and international organizations. Finally, he concluded that together we should all contribute to creating a safer and more secure environment, ensuring that personal data is handled responsibly and transparently.
Taking into account contemporary challenges and European standards, the Strategy outlines four basic goals in the next five years in implementing the right to personal data protection:
- Ensure the overall autonomy and independence of the PDPA
- Adoption of the Law Amending and Supplementing the Law on Personal Data Protection to ensure the autonomy and independence of the PDPA in managing finances and human resources
- Strengthening the capacities of the PDPA
- Amendment of Sectoral Legislation on Misdemeanour Sanctions
- Harmonize legislation
- Adoption of a Law Transposing the EU Law Enforcement Directive
- Harmonization of National Laws with EU Legislation in the Area of Personal Data Protection
- Harmonization of Legislation in the Context of Digitization Processes
- Foster a continuous increase in personal data protection culture.
- Enhanced Cooperation with Data Protection Authorities and Other International Organizations and Bodies
- Continuous Cooperation with the Public, Private and Civil Sector
- Data Protection Trainings
- Increasing Transparency and Enhancing the Visibility of the PDPA
- Implement accountability tools
- Improving Accountability Tools to Promote Compliance Among Controllers
- Certification and Codes of Conduct
- Networking of Position of Personal Data Protection Officers
- Activities to Improve the Position of Personal Data Protection Officers
