The Agency for the Protection of Personal Data with the support of the EU twinning project “Support in the implementation of the modernized legal framework for the protection of personal data”, on June 1 and 2, 2022, organized the sixth training session on the protection of personal data on the topic “Introduction to the protection of personal data” and “Methodology for harmonization of sectoral legislation with the Law on the Protection of Personal Data with a practical example”.

The training was intended for employees in ministries, other state administration bodies and agencies whose responsibilities include drafting and adopting laws and by-laws that, among other things, govern the collection, processing and storage of personal data.

The Law on the Protection of Personal Data regulates which mandatory provisions should be included in the laws governing the collection, processing and storage of personal data. In February 2022, the Agency adopted a Decision on establishing a Methodology for the harmonization of sectorial legislation (“Official Gazette of the Republic of North Macedonia” no. 38/22).

The first part of the training covered the novelties of the ZZLP and the main obligations for controllers and processors, while the focus of the second part of the training was on the Methodology for Harmonization of Sectoral Legislation and its practical application and covered three main topics: the process for checking existing laws and determination of the need for harmonization with the new ZZLP; the implementation process Assessment of the impact of laws from the aspect of personal data protection, and the process of previous consultations with the AZLP in case of drafting new legal solutions.
