Today (January 28, 2022) marked the 16th edition of the “Day of Personal Data Protection”, the purpose of which is to raise awareness of the right to protect personal data.
The Agency for the Protection of Personal Data in cooperation with the partners from the twinning project “Support in the implementation of the modernized legal framework for the protection of personal data” organized an online debate in which they addressed the challenges in the implementation of the Law on the Protection of Personal Data. Croatian experience and practices in the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) were also shared.
“Officers for the protection of personal data are an extension of the Agency” said the director of the Agency Imer Aliu and said that they should “be active in their organization, institution, company, work to improve the knowledge of employees and take care of personal data of its customers, patients, employees, pupils, students, associates. Only together can we put the law into practice.”
At today’s event, a large number of guides, forms and informational materials were presented that will help the controllers to more easily harmonize their work with the Law on the Protection of Personal Data, thereby ensuring greater protection of citizens’ personal data. A video clip prepared by the project intended for controllers, and especially for small and medium-sized businesses, was also promoted.
January 28 has been celebrated every year since 2006 when the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe promoted it as “Day of Personal Data Protection”. Data Protection Day is celebrated globally and is known outside Europe as “Privacy Day”.
