
Representatives of the Agency for the Protection of Personal Data participated in the 30th Conference of European Supervisory Authorities (Spring Conference) which took place from 19-20 May 2022 in Cavtat, Republic of Croatia.
Supervisory authorities for the protection of personal data, members of the Conference, adopted the Resolution on the need for rapid ratification of the “Convention 108+” . The resolution calls on the governments of the member states of the Council of Europe, the governments of third countries and the European Union to speed up the process of signing and ratifying the Convention 108+. The Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data is the only legally binding multilateral agreement at the international level for the protection of personal data. The convention was amended in May 2018 through an amended protocol due to enter into force in 2023.
The conference also adopted a Resolution that will ensure the further work of the Spring Conference , i.e. it guarantees that the Conference can continue to be successfully organized for all important issues of interest to the European regulators for the protection of personal data.
The conference is an opportunity for supervisors from 40 European countries to discuss and share experiences about the problems they face, best practices and strategies for advancing the field of personal data protection in Europe through panels and lectures by the most eminent experts in the field of personal data protection data.
At the conference, the representative of the Personal Data Protection Agency shared experiences and good practices with colleagues from other European countries for the implementation of joint European projects aimed at mutual assistance and strengthening of cooperation between supervisory bodies for the protection of personal data.
The spring conference is a closed conference for members and observers and consists of 62 national and regional supervisory authorities for the protection of personal data, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Agency for Fundamental Human Rights of the European Union, Europol, Eurojustice and the Council of Europe.
At this year’s spring conference, the European Data Protection Board and the European Space Agency were admitted as observers, and the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection of Lower Saxony as a member.
