Spam, junk mail (advertising material received by e-mail) or unsolicited commercial mail (unsolicited advertising mail) is an unsolicited message, usually with advertising content. The content of the messages is usually to buy some products or services on the Internet, to lose weight quickly and easily, etc., and in addition to your address, they are also sent to thousands of others. Examples from everyday life that are similar to spam in electronic form are the flyers that we find in our mailboxes every day, notifying us about new products, price reductions, etc.

Spam is not a problem if you receive a few unsolicited messages in your e-mail, which can be easily deleted. However, it is a problem when such a situation is repeated daily with a large number of messages and it is difficult to distinguish the necessary e-mail from the unwanted one.

There are several ways to protect against spam, but most often a combination of them is needed to achieve the desired effect.

Protection measures:

  • Do not post your email publicly. If for any reason it must be published publicly on the website, then it is best to be encrypted.
  • If you are reviewing web content that offers free services, then it is best not to subscribe to their mailing list, which informs you about new products. If you want to do that, then it is best to open a new e-mail that you will use in such situations, and use the official e-mail carefully.
  • In most of the spam messages, there is an instruction to unsubscribe from the mailing list, so that you no longer receive unwanted messages. Most often, if you follow the instructions of the recommendations – if you try to unsubscribe from the spammer list in this way, you can achieve the opposite effect.
  • Create a filter in your e-mail reader and redirect e-mails (potential spams) to a separate directory.
